‘Sunless Shadows’ to open Middle East Now

Iran’s doc ‘Sunless Shadows’ is to open Middle East Now festival in Italy.

Iranian documentary movie ‘Sunless Shadows’ has been scheduled to open the Middle East Now (Festival of Cinema and Contemporary Culture on the Middle East) in Italy.

Mehrdad Oskouee’s award-wining flick will be the opening movie to be screened at the 11th edition of the Italian film event.

The 74-minute documentary narrates the story of five young women who are jailed in a small juvenile detention center for murder.

Through breathtaking monologues, the women clarify the circumstances of the murders and even their motives.

The doc has already participated in a number of international events, including the DocPoint - Helsinki Documentary Film Festival in Finland, the Big Sky doc filmfest and the Museum of Modern Art in the US, the True/False Film Fest in the US, the Geneva Int’l Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights in Switzerland, and the ZagrebDox in Croatia.

Among many honors gained by the film, Oskouee received the Best Director award at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) in Netherlands.

“The Middle East Now festival is organized by MAP OF CREATION, a non-profit cultural association based in Florence which is active in producing documentary films and hosting cultural events”, according to the official website of the fest.

The 2020 edition of the event is slated for October 6-11.
